What is Biotin?

Biotin, a water-soluble vitamin, and part of the B-Vitamin family is a co-enzyme for mitochondrial carbohydrates in hair follicles and is involved in the synthesis of keratin, a fibrous protein that forms the main structural component of hair.* Water-soluble vitamins are not readily stored in the body; therefore, they should be consumed every day. Biotin is found in foods such as oatmeal, vegetables, legumes, and soy.

What is Silicon?

Silicon is the third most abundant trace mineral in the human body and accumulates in the epicuticle, which is the outermost layer of hair. Silicon is involved in the synthesis of sulfur-rich proteins like keratin. These proteins provide structural support for hair.• While you can get this nutrient from foods such as grain, fish, meat, and eggs, Silicon may also be taken

What is Arginine?

Arginine is also involved in keratin production.• It is one of the many amino acids that make up this structural protein in hair. Arginine is also a precursor to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is

an important compound in the body that helps increase circulation and nutrient delivery, including to the hair follicles in the scalp. The body naturally produces Arginine; however,

it is also found in most protein-rich foods, including fish, red meat, poultry, soy, whole grains, beans, and dairy products.

What does the research say?

According to a 2021 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled (RDBPC) study published in the Journal of Clinical & Experimental Dermatology Research, investigators evaluated Advanced Hair Complex (under the name Lustriva®) for

its ability to improve hair quality.* Ninety healthy women with hair thinning and an average age of 46 years old, supplemented with Advanced Hair Complex (under the name Lustriva®) high-dose (10 mg Biotin), low-dose (3 mg Biotin) or placebo for 12 weeks. At baseline, participant’s self-reported hair thinning was confirmed by the principal investigator using the Savin/Ludwig scale, a well-accepted and widely used measure of female hair loss and thinning. To measure changes in hair quality and growth, investigators used a high-resolution camera coupled with computerized methods to objectively determine the status of the hair over time. At the end of the 12-week study duration, women in the high dose group experienced a significant increase in hair thickness compared to both the placebo and low-dose groups by comparing

the percentage of terminal to vellus hair.*
